‘Adventure Begins at Your Library’ in 2024
SummerQuest is York County Libraries’ version of a summer reading program—but it’s so much more! We offer kids and teens tons of ways to stay active in mind and body all summer long. We host free, fun activities that keep everyone learning, reading, and physically active from June to August. Each year, the theme and special events change.
Get All Together Now this summer with the York County Libraries SummerQuest Challenge. Did you know that the single best way to prepare for the upcoming school year is by reading over the summer? Children lose as much as 30% of the knowledge gained during the school year over summer break (2017, Brookings). Stay engaged in learning, enjoy the summer, and stop summer learning loss with SummerQuest. Stay connected by attending programs at all 13 York County Libraries locations.
Kids & Teens: Take the SummerQuest 800 Minute Challenge!
Log 800 minutes by reading, attending programs, completing activities and doing GO York! hikes. Use the Beanstack app or website to log all your minutes and earn prizes for every 200 minutes logged.

Minutes can be counted for any of the following activities:
- Reading OR listening to a book, eBook, audio, or eAudio book
- Attending library programs and events*
- Taking on one of the GO York! hikes*
*Attending library events or doing GO York! hikes gets you a bonus 20 minutes toward your goals! Don’t forget to log them after completing the activity.

York County Libraries SummerQuest Prizes
Pick up your prizes starting June 10 as you hit these milestones in Beanstack. Kids ages 3 – 11 get brag tags at registration & 800 minutes! Teens ages 12-18, there are some special prizes for you… especially if you hit 800 minutes of reading!

400 Minutes
- FREE admission ticket (ages 0-18) to the York State Fair
- BOGO coupon for York Baked Potatoes Stand at the York State Fair
- FREE admission ticket (ages 0-18) to the Oakes Museum of Natural History
- FREE dessert coupon (kids’ size, ages 0-11) OR BOGO coupon (for teens 12-18) at Isaac’s Deli

600 Minutes
- FREE admission ticket (ages 0-18) to Maize Quest Fun Park

- Each library will select one (1) Teen aged 12-18 to win** a role-playing game set and FREE weekend pass to York’s premier tabletop game convention “Save Against Fear” at the York Expo Center this November (Nov 8-10; sponsored by the Bodhana Group)
- Each library will select two (2) Teens aged 12-18 to win** a three-hour gaming voucher to ReadyUp Gaming Lounge for the winner and a friend

800 Minutes
- Brag Tag (kids 3-11)
- FREE ticket to the York Revolution game on August 18 & drawing* to throw the first pitch
- FREE Safari Tour at Lake Tobias Wildlife Park
- Each library will select one (1) participant to win* a PickTwo Pak + $10 Game Card for Hickory Falls family entertainment center
- Each library will select one (1) Teen aged 12-18 to win** a 30-minute private music lesson at School of Rock
- Two (2) Teens aged 12-18 will win** an Escape Room event package from Escape Games Live in York. The winners may bring 7 friends to try to escape a room within one hour, followed by a one-hour party experience!

Get Outdoors (GO) York!
GO York! booklet and rubbing sheets are available for pickup starting June 1, 2024.
During GO York, 30 wooden posts are hidden in York County parks. Using your GO York guide book, follow the steps to locate the posts and unveil the “rubbing” of the sketch and secret code. Log your secret code into Beanstack to gain entries into the GO York grand prize drawings! Join the GO York! Facebook group for updates and info. Get Outdoors York! is facilitated by our partner, Wellspan Health.
Scouts
Calling all Scouts! Earn a special patch for participating in SummerQuest:
- Complete the 800 Minute Reading Challenge
- Attend 6+ SummerQuest events at any of our libraries
- Complete 10+ GO York! hikes
Log your progress on Beanstack. When you finish, pick up your patch at any YCL location.
